There is something for everyone in
Barbados. Relax on the beach, or sip rum punch whilst
sailing the Caribbean Coast on a luncheon or sunset
cruise. For the more lively there is parasailing,
windsurfing, tennis, golf, squash and horse riding.
There are sights to reward the
curious, restaurants to delight the gourmet, and a
nightlife that bubbles with tropical excitement.
There are many places of interest to
visit such as Harrisons Cave, Barbados Wildlife Reserve,
The Flower Forest - and you can even dive beneath the
waves and marvel at the beautiful coral reef.
Sunny weather all year round makes
Barbados an ideal location for golfers and "would-be"
golfers! These glorious weather conditions are
complemented by some excellent golf courses.
Several golf tournaments are hosted
throughout the year, attracting participants from a
number of countries including Europe and North America.
In addition, most golf clubs offer professional
instruction.
The warm waters off the coast of
Barbados offer ideal fishing for Barracuda, Tuna, Wahoo,
Dolphin (Dorado), and the Marlin species. There is a
fleet of Cabin Cruisers available for charter.
Spin fishing from the many beaches and
inshore fishing from open boats is a popular pastime for
Barbadians. Fishing is, in fact, a way of life.
Barbados is home to a healthy
population of hawksbill and leatherback turtles. Once
endangered by over fishing, these great creatures are
now protected and monitored throughout the island.
Turtles are sociable and tend to stay in the same area,
following a steady routine. So long as they do not leave
a habitat, they can be seen playing and feeding along
the inshore reefs. In certain monitored areas they have
become accustomed to humans and are relatively tame -
you can swim with them as they feed amongst the
coral.
The fringes and reefs found off
Barbados blossom with healthy sponges, coral and plant
life, making it a beautiful proposition for Scuba
Diving. There are several types of reefs, each one
unique in its own special way. The barrier reefs,
located between 1/2 and 2 miles from shore contain large
coral heads which form the habitat for thousands of
beautiful fish - including Sea Horses, Frog Fish and
Giant Sand Eels.
